Preschooler Calorie Needs - How Many Calories Does Your Preschooler Need?
You can make better informed food choices by knowing how many calories your preschooler needs. Plus, find out how many calories are in some common preschooler foods.
I look at this and wonder about my 2.5 year old DD. She is 41 inches tall and about 40 pounds. Do I go by her age or size, as she seems more on par sizewise with a 5 year old... She eats very healthy and is very active, she just comes from a "big" family, lol!
homefree,

Good question. Since calorie needs are based mainly on body weight, your daughter's body size is more important than age. As an active girl, her calorie needs are around 1500 calories per day, plus or minus some calories for activity level. If she is highly active, her needs might be closer to 1650.
