I'm just curious...how many of you out there help your preschooler make holiday and/or Christmas gifts for family and friends? Who would you most likely give a handmade gift to - grandparents, friends, cousins?
I would def. give handmade gifts to family and friends from my preschooler. Maybe this is what we will do this year. I may have Aidan draw some pics and then buy some cheepish(price) frames and frame them for everyone-kinda cute I think.
Framing your preschoolers drawings is a great idea! You could even scan them into the computer and make Christmas cards out of them. I am planning on having my daughter make gifts for family members this year too. I just hope I have the stamina to stay creative during the holiday season while trying to fit in all the parties and get togethers!

You can't let them know what they're doing.
We give handmade gifts to grandparents. They have what they need, can buy what they want, and whatever they're not willing to buy, we're generally not in a financial position to get, either. I think they'd much prefer something from the heart. We usually give a scrapbook to each set of grandparents that showcase the kids' previous year. My husband's in the Coast Guard, so we move a lot. We're generally not close to family, so they really appreciate being able to watch the kids grow. And of course they love the work done by budding artists.
We were planning on making some homemade gifts this year too, especially for the grandparents. I saw a cute idea somewhere to make personalized kitchen towels or pot holders by taking fabric paint and putting the child's handprints on the towel. You could also write the child's name/dob/etc. Then of course you could do the salt dough handprints. For Mother's and Father's Day for my parents I had Brody draw a picture (ok he's 2 so it was more like a giant scribble but still...). Then I added a couple pics of him with my parents and then wrote "I love my Grandpa/Grandma" They loved them. We might also make them a stepping stone for their garden.
We always give the grandparents homemade gifts, what else can you get for someone who has everything. My son has a great time making gifts and cards. I think they'd be disappointed if they opened the package and it wasn't homemade.
I'm planning to do homemade gifts for the grandparents this year, but not sure what we'll be making yet. Keep the ideas coming!
I agree.......I think Grandparents love handmade gifts. They're also great as presents for mom and dad too!
I always have my students make items they wish to share with family. I try to have at least 5 or 6 different ideas and let the children choose if they want to make it and for whom. They can make all of them if they wish. Placemats with pictures, napkin rings, centerpieces, picture frames are some of the things I have done in the past. I'm always looking for the children to make something which can be used!!!!!
