I'm just wondering if other parents have noticed their children acting much quieter at school than anywhere else, not just at home. My daughter goes to our city's most reputable learn through play concept preschool. The teacher is compassionate and enthusiastic and amazing with over 25 years of experience. She has said that this is her quietest group she's ever had. I was so surprised to see my typically vocal, carefree, friendly and even LOUD daughter barely speak a word. The teacher told me talks very little, but will answer if spoken to, as some of her classmates won't even do that.
She went to this same school last year but had a different teacher...someone with little patience for 3 yr. olds...I am wondering if the stern approach of last year's teacher has caused these kids to withdraw. Last year my daughter became more quiet and withdrawn as the year went on, but I was really hoping to see her old self back this year. She is chatty and outgoing and more social in all of her other activities...thoughts?
My other thought, besides last year's teacher having had an effect, is to agree with this year's teacher...that there are a lot of late birthdays, socially immature kids, and the entire class is following the lead of the shy, quiet ones, rather than the opposite.
Not sure why this is bugging me so much. My daughter says she likes school and hasn't once expressed a wish to stay home.
Also, we've had play dates here with several of her classmates and they starting talking, laughing, screaming the minute they see each other. Not sure why they don't talk or play at school...do kids this age feel self-conscious?
