Decorating Christmas cookies was always my favorite thing to do with Mom every year. To this day I have to bake Christmas cookies or it just doesn't feel like Christmas! Now that my son is 2 I'm excited to have him help me! Last night in a magazine I saw a very good idea for all of the fun cookie decorations. They used a muffin tin and put a different decoration in each section of the muffin tin. I thought it was a great way to prevent an entire bottle of decorations from being poured on one cookie! It's a great way to ration the decorations. They had different candies and things in each tin. They also suggested giving each child their own muffin tin to prevent fighting. I may have to try that!
What a great idea! Our last 2 Christmas cookie sessions didn't turn out so well (not that I expected them to). My shapes never seem to hold their shape, and well, you hit the nail on the head with comment on entire containers ending up on one cookie. I'm definitely going to try the muffin tin this year.
Now if I could just figure out how to make Santa look like Santa after baking!

That's a great idea. I'm with you not feeling like Christmas unless you've decorated some Christmas cookies. I love holiday baking, but I also like to get it done ahead of time, not at the last minute. I like to have time to enjoy it. So I usually get the cookies baked shortly after Thanksgiving then throw them in the freezer for a couple weeks.
That's a great idea! So simple, yet I would have never thought of it.
